Associate membership is provided to those individuals who are unable to be active members in an evangelical church and wish to support the objectives of the Association. All criteria for Full Membership must be met with the exception of church membership. The following criteria must be met to be considered for Associate membership.
a. The church being attended provides a mission statement and is in harmony with the Statement of Mission and beliefs of the Association; and
b. The applicants are active in attendance and participate in church ministries on a regular basis, verified by letter from the pastor; and
c. The church verifies by letter that membership does not exist for anyone in this church; and
d. There is a track record of actively participating in ABCA ministries attested to by more than one Board member; and
e. There is personal knowledge of an active Board member of the applicant’s character and spiritual walk; or
f. The applicant is physically impaired and unable to attend services, but has a history of active membership in an evangelical church in the past.
Associate membership shall be on an annual calendar year basis from January 1st through December 31st. A person must be a member with dues paid by May 15th to be eligible to vote at the annual meeting of members help during that calendar year. Persons admitted to membership on or after May 16th of each year shall pay the requisite annual dues at the time of registration. Failure to review the membership annually or pay the membership fee will result in the person being dropped from the Roll of Members. An informal inquiry shall be made by the Executive Committee of any member who becomes inactive by not reviewing their membership. Persons lacking interest in renewing their membership or failing to respond to the inquiry shall be moved from the membership list. Fees received will be applied to membership first, cottage fees past and present second, if a cottage owner, assessments third, and dock fees and miscellaneous fees last.
Associate members will have most rights and privileges of Full members to include eligibility to vote in Association meetings, and to serve as members of any committee with the exception that Associate members shall not be eligible for any Association office, or chairmanship of any committee. Associate members will not have the option to purchase a cottage. The total number of Associate members shall be limited to 20% of the Full membership total. Change of the member status will require membership in an evangelical church, and a new review of the circumstances by the Executive Committee.
Cottage Owner Restrictions of Associate Members
Associate members who meet the above criteria and currently own a cottage, may be given permission in writing from the Board of Directors to continue ownership of a cottage on the Association grounds, as long as they maintain Associate membership in the Association. This exception applies only to those who received their cottage ownership while active members of an evangelical church. Such owners may not transfer ownership of their cottage to any other person who is not a Full Member of the Association.
